2008-2009 Chrysler Companionvan RE Gas Spring Assist Retrofit Installation And Service Manual. This retrofit is for early production Braun Companionvan RE conversion applications that are not originally equipped with a gas spring ramp lifting assist. This assist will decrease ramp lift force by approximately 11.5lbs when installed correctly. Ensure that the retrofit is done by a qualified technician with the proper tools and safety equipment. The first step in the retrofit is to open the rear hatch of the vehicle for inspection. Without deploying the ramp, look downward between the rear weather seal door and the stowed ramp to see if the vehicle has the mounting holes for the lower gas spring pivots. There will be six holes (three per side) on the inner flange of the rear weather seal door. An inspection light may be needed to see these holes (show below). If holes are present, step 4 can be omitted. Deploy the ramp and locate the four countersunk bolts that fasten the cam follow plates to the bottom of the ramp base. While supporting the rear weather seal door, remove the four fasteners using a 3/16 inch Allen wrench or socket.
